Small Business Website Guides

What your first business website needs to tell a customer

A practical content plan for service pages, contact information, business identity and helpful articles.

Explain the business before asking for a sale

Write a clear introduction that says what you do and who you help. Avoid making visitors interpret a slogan before they understand the service. Follow the introduction with the information someone needs to decide whether your business is relevant to them.

Use real examples of your work when you have permission to share them. Leave out reviews, client names or results you cannot substantiate. Specific, accurate information is a better starting point than a page of broad promises.

Make the contact route obvious

Decide which contact options your business can actually maintain. Label them clearly and explain what each is for. Only publish response times and availability that you can support.

Give customers the details they need before contacting you. Depending on your business, that could include your service area, appointment process or the information needed to describe a project.

Plan useful articles around real questions

Keep a list of questions customers ask before choosing your service. Turn the recurring questions into articles that explain one subject clearly. Group the articles into a few useful categories and link to them from relevant pages.

If AI helps with a draft, check every factual claim and remove invented examples. Review the result as a reader: does the article explain something useful, and is the next step clear?

Give the website a maintenance plan

Assign someone to review the contact details, service descriptions and articles regularly. Keep content responsibilities separate from the technical hosting tasks so important updates do not get overlooked.

Choose hosting around the website you intend to maintain. Compare its resources, full billing term and support route, then plan domain and email requirements alongside it.
