Dot NAME Domain Names

Introduced in 2001, the Dot NAME universal top-level domain name extension is the only one supposed to be for personal web pages only. These domain names can be personal or fictitious names, nicknames and/or other titles people are known by. At the beginning, solely 3rd-level registrations were allowed, so if you planned to buy john.doe.name, you would have to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was loosened and 2nd-level registrations were also permitted. Already acquired 3rd-level domain names remained active.
