SSH Telnet
Discover more about the Telnet protocol and its use.
SSH, which is an abbreviation for Secure Shell, is a network protocol which is used to exchange encrypted info between a client and a website hosting server, which makes it impossible for unauthorized parties to intercept any data. Many tech-savvy clients prefer SSH due to the improved level of security. The connection is made and the commands are delivered through a command line. The available options depend on the type of web hosting service - on a shared server, for example, files could be relocated or deleted, databases can be imported and exported, and archives could be created or unpacked. On a virtual or a dedicated server, the options are significantly more - the web server and the database server can be started/stopped/rebooted, server-side software can be set up and a lot more. These things aren't possible on a shared server, due to the fact that full root access is needed and all the other customers on that server shall be affected. While SSH is used largely with UNIX-like Operating Systems, there are SSH clients for other OSs as well - Windows, Mac OS, and so on.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting
SSH access is included by default with some of our
semi-dedicated server solutions, while with others you may include it via the hosting CP if needed - even only for the current month. In either case, you can activate and de-activate the function with just one mouse click through the SSH section of the Control Panel. In the same place, you'll see the server name, the port number and the username required to connect to our platform. You shall also find a box in which you can easily enter the password that you would like to use, since it doesn't have to be the same as the one you use to log into the Control Panel. For better protection, you could also change it as often as you need. A full list of the commands which can be performed in a semi-dedicated account is supplied in our Knowledge Base, together with the syntax and several instances. An extra feature after SSH access is activated will be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client which supports this kind of connections.
